Reaching Langkawi by Air
Langkawi is connected with several points in Malaysia like Kulala Lumpur and Penang, as well as several other overseas cities like Singapore, Phuket (Thailand), Seoul (South Korea), and cities of Australia, China, Japan and others with regular and direct air connections. Langkawi Airport is located at Padang Matsirat and is served by airlines like Malaysia Airline, Air Asia and others.

The flying time from places to Langkawi:
1) Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi: 1 hour 10 minutes Approx.
2) Penang to Langkawi: 35 Minutes Approx.
3) Singapore to Langkawi: 1 hour 25 minutes Approx.




Getting to Langkawi by Car/Bus
There is no road connection all the way to Langkawi. You can drive from the mainland Malaysia (like Kuala Lumpur) on your own car or by bus to one of the following places:
 
1. Ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah which is located at the north western coast of Malaysia. If you are driving along the North South Expressway, take the exit at Alor Setar Selatan, and follow the signs. It takes about 6 hours to reach Kuala Kedah by car from Kuala Lumpur. 
2. Ferry terminal at Kuala Perlis will takes about an hour more. 
Regular buses/coaches are available between KL and Kuala Perlis (about 8 hours). Buses leaves from Pudu Sentral bus station or Hentian Duta bus station in KL. The bus stand at Kuala Perlis is at a walking distance from ferry dock.
You will get regular daily ferry service from both Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis to reach the Kuah Jetty of Langkawi. The express ferry takes about 1 hour 30 minutes from Kuala Kedah and 1 hour 15 minutes from Kuala Perlis to reach Langkawi. There are paid car parking available next to the jetties of both Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis. The minimum parking fee is RM15.00 per day.


Getting to Langkawi by Ferry/Boat
Being an island of Malaysia in Andaman Sea, Langkawi is the one of the main mode of connections with other parts of Malaysia and neighboring countries is through boat or ferry services. There are several ferry routes and services that provide Langkawi's waterways. The nearest point linked with Langkawi by ferry is Kuala Perlis which is located 31 kms.
Other ferry points in Malaysia accessible from Langkawi includes Kuala Kedah (51 kms away and at the north western coast of Malaysia's main land), and Penang (110 kms away also at the western coast of Malaysia). Satun of Thailand is also connected through a ferry service from Langkawi.
Kuah Jetty in Kuah town is Lankawi's main ferry point from where the ferries leave and arrive. The entrance of Kuah Jetty is through a large & modern shopping complex. On the other side of the road, there is a Tourist Information Center run by the Malaysia Government. You can collect free brochures and maps of various places of Malaysia including Langkawi, Penang, Kuala lumpur and others from here.
